Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior representative commented the attack rendered him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
